Implementing a PLTW Program
Schools that wish to offer a PLTW STEM Education program enter into a PLTW STEM Agreement.
Below is some basic information about implementing a program. For more detailed instructions, visit our Getting Started page.
For High Schools (Pathway To Engineering and/or Biomedical Sciences)
- For high schools that wish to provide a PLTW program, they must offer at least three courses within a period of three academic years from the date that it commences the curricular program.
- For Pathway to Engineering (PTE) required courses are Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, and any PLTW Pathway To Engineering specialization or capstone course of their choosing.
- For Biomedical Sciences (BMS), schools are required to offer Principles of the Biomedical Sciences, Human Body Systems and Medical Interventions (MI).
- Schools must offer a minimum of four courses to be eligible for certification.
For Middle Schools (Gateway To Technology)
- Middle schools must choose to offer either the Basic or Advanced program.
- GTT Basic requires schools to offer at least two units within two years while GTT Advanced requires schools to offer at least four units within three years.
- The Design and Modeling and Automation and Robotics units are required for both options.
